An area of heavy showers and thunderstorms lies across the north of Northland.
Another band of heavy rain and thunderstorms is expected to move onto the far north tonight and move southwards tomorrow morning.
People should watch for rapidly rising streams and rivers. Localised surface flooding is likely in intense downpours.

Forecast:
North of Whangarei, bursts of heavy rain with thunderstorms should continue off and on through to about midday Wednesday. In the 25 hours from 11am today to midday Wednesday expect up to 100mm rain in some areas. Intense downpours in thunderstorms are likely with rainfall rates of 25mm per hour.
Northland south of Whangarei, scattered heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms today. A band of heavy rain is likely to move over the area Wednesday morning.
In the 18 hours from midnight tonight to 6pm Wednesday expect 100mm rain in some areas. Intense downpours are likely in thunderstorms with rainfall rates of 30mm per hour.
