The SPCA has always made housecalls, but now it may begin offering room service with a new scheme labelled AniMeals on Wheels.
SPCA chief executive Robyn Kippenberger said yesterday the scheme would see volunteers delivering donated pet food to the homes of elderly and disabled pet owners.
"Often these pets are their only companion and it is vital the owners don't feel any stress in looking after them," Ms Kippenberger told the Otago Daily Times.
The scheme could be trialed in Auckland by the end of the year with the rest of the country to follow in 2009.
