Bugs is in need of a new home after living at the SPCA's Mangere village for more than seven months.
The all black rabbit, which SPCA staff say is one to two years old, was surrendered last year with another rabbit which has since been adopted.
Attendant Justine Somerville describes Bugs as a territorial rabbit needing a quiet home and lots of space to run around.
"You may find he is a little grumpy if someone interferes with his space," says Ms Somerville.
Bugs may take a while to warm to his new owners but once he does he is known to enjoy cuddles and sitting on laps.
Ms Somerville says Bugs needs an adult family with previous rabbit experience who will be able to accept his independent and headstrong nature.
All SPCA bunnies are temperament tested, vet checked, desexed, microchipped and vaccinated.
To adopt Bugs, or any other animal at the village, contact the SPCA on (09) 256-7300.
Bugs' village ID is 165927.
