Spate of blazes prompts arson probe

The blaze on Wednesday at an unoccupied Hamilton house marks the fourth in the area in nearly as many days, the second to be treated by police as suspicious.

A dozen firefighters battled the fire on Smith St in Frankton for about four hours.

Last Friday fire staff were called to another suspected arson attack on a Pine Avenue home in Melville, where a mother escaped to safety with her three small children.

Sunday's blaze at an Aloma Way home in Glenview is thought to have been triggered by an electrical fault and a house in Griffiths Place in Claudlands was gutted on Monday when unattended chip fat went up in flames.

Hamilton Senior Fire Station Officer David Jenkins said the four fires were not believed to be linked.

Both suspected arson attacks were being investigated by the police, he said.
