A 51-year-old Tuatapere man has died in a logging accident in Southland.
Nicholas David McKenzie was working with a colleague logging trees on a rural property on Young Road at Orepuki when the workplace accident happened about 5pm yesterday.
His workmate was driving a digger while he was injured while processing logs close to the digger on the ground.
Police, St John and a paramedic attended soon after the incident occurred, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Occupational Safety and Health staff also inspected the site last night," says senior sergeant Cynthia Fairley, sub area commander of Western Southland.
