A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle on a rural road near Lumsden in Southland this morning.
The man, in his 20s, was hit by a Mitsubishi on the Mossburn-Lumsden Highway, near the intersection with Dipton-Castlerock Rd, 84km north of Invercargill, about 7.25am.
The road was closed while police conducted a scene examination, Senior Sergeant Bruce Terry of Invercargill police said.
Police were talking to a number of people and would like to hear from anyone who used the road early this morning.
The death came just hours after a pedestrian was struck by a truck in South Canterbury.
Police were called to the scene on State Highway 1 near Normanby, 5km south of Timaru, about 2.30am.
The road was closed and diversions put in place.
