Two people are dead and four injured - two critically - after separate incidents on Auckland motorways overnight, including one that closed a northbound section of the Southern Motorway for several hours this morning, delaying commuters.
Northbound lanes between Manukau and East Tamaki have now reopened, more than four hours after a single-vehicle crash on the Southern Motorway at Ōtara at 2.20am killed one and injured four - two critically, police said.
“One person died at the scene, two people were transported to Auckland Hospital in a critical condition and two other people were transported to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.”
Just over an hour earlier a person was killed when they walked on to the Southwestern Motorway at Mt Roskill and were struck by a vehicle, police said.
“The person died at the scene, no other injuries are reported,” they said of the 1am incident, which was expected to cause delays on the Southwestern Motorway this morning.
