Northbound lanes of the Auckland southern motorway have been reopened 17 hours ahead of schedule.
A section of the motorway over the Newmarket Viaduct was closed to allow for road works from five o'clock last night through to eight o'clock tomorrow morning, but the section was reopened at three o'clock this afternoon and traffic is now using it.
A spokesperson for the Transport Agency Steve Mutton says motorists should take care as they get used to the new layout.
Feared delays and congestion did not eventuate, as motorists heeded advice to stay away during the closure.
