A serious crash has blocked the southbound lane of State Highway 3 near Bulls.

The crash happened 1km north of Bulls, north-west of Palmerston North, shortly after 8.30am.

Four people are reported to have serious injuries.

The Police's Serious Crash Unit will investigate.
