KEY POINTS:
Rain in the South Island's hydro lakes area over the weekend may give the country an extra two weeks supply.
Weekly inflow levels have risen dramatically following two days of rainfall in the catchment areas. Some lakes have taken up to half a metre of water.
Rain Effects hydrologist, Dave Stewart says the rainfall is a major plus because it has been 10 to 12 weeks since there were significant rises in lake levels. He says the country is not out of the woods yet but it is good news that more rain is forecast for this week.
