Phone services to South Island police stations have been restored following a brief outage this morning.
Earlier direct calls to the stations failed to connect but the 111 emergency number was not affected.
Police were made aware of the problem about 6am and the fault was fixed by about 7am, police southern communications Inspector Paul Fremaux said.
It was not yet clear what caused the fault, he said.
