KEY POINTS:
The death of a 16-month-old toddler in south Auckland last week is not being treated as suspicious.
Police spoke to seven adults who were at the address in Flat Bush, 22km southeast of downtown Auckland, after the boy was found dead by ambulance staff who were called about 3am on Friday.
A post-mortem examination of the boy's body was held on Friday and Counties Manukau police spokeswoman Angeline Barlow said the results produced no evidence to suggest the death was a homicide.
"As a result of the post-mortem we are going to refer this case to the coroner," Ms Barlow told NZPA today.
She said the death was being treated as unexplained. No results of the post-mortem examination will be released so as not to prejudice the coroner's inquiry.
Police said after the boy's death that three family members tried to force their way past a security officer guarding the scene where the child had died. Police were called and one of the men was arrested and charged with assault.
A party had been going on and there were a number of drunk people in the house, police said.
