KEY POINTS:
Fire safety inspectors are investigating a fire overnight at a food storage building.
Northern Fire spokesman Scott Osmond told NZPA a police patrol car alerted the fire service of the blaze at 122 Great South Road, Otahuhu, shortly after 2am today.
Mr Osmond said the building was partially abandoned, while part of it was used for storing bulk food and spice.
Ten appliances attended the fire which took about an hour to bring under control, he said.
One appliance remained at the scene, he said.
