Wairarapa United striker Seule Soromon has been a sensation for YoungHeart Manawatu as they mount a strong challenge for major honours in the 2009-10 New Zealand Football Championship.
Manawatu , with two wins in their three matches, currently sit in equal second place with Waitakere behind unbeaten Auckland on the points table and statistics clearly indicate just how vital Soromon's attacking brilliance has been to their side.
They have scored six goals to date and Soromon has all but one of them with the other actually going to another of Manawatu's Wairarapa United "imports" in former All White Campbell Banks.
His effort has Soromon leading the race for the Golden Boot award which goes to the leading goal scorer in the championship and has earned the Vanuatu international rave reviews from media personnel all over the country.
No more so than when Manawatu demolished arch rivals Wellington 4-0 in their opening game with the Soromon providing all four of their
Goals, three of them in the second half. He was labelled the "star of the show", often exposing the Wellington defence with his speed and ball control and finishing with deadly accuracy.
In fact, he could have ended with five goals as he had a shot cleared off the line in the closing stages after he had rounded the Wellington 'keeper Jim Bannatyne with a typical piece of magic.
Manawatu's second victory came when they defeated Waikato 2-1 at Ngaurawahia just last weekend and again it was the flair of Soroimon which did the trick.
A 1-1 result-Banks having scored from close range earlier in the game-looked certain until Soromon found himself with limited space in the box, somehow dancing around three defenders before cutting in and beating the "keeper for what was to be the winning goal..
Manawatu coach Bob Sova was not surprisingly rapt with the input of Soromon and Banks but actually signalled out a third of his Wairarapa United players in Adam Cowan, as the player of that particular match.
Sova described Cowan-who captains Manawatu- as a "rock on defence" who constantly thwarted Waikato attacks with his calmness under pressure.
Manawatu will continue their NFC programme with a home game against Canterbury on December 6.
