The former boyfriend of Dunedin student Sophie Elliott is to stand trial for her murder.
32-year-old former Otago University tutor Clayton Weatherston is accused of stabbing the 22-year old university student more than 200 times in her Dunedin home. He has pleaded not guilty.
The two Justices of the Peace overseeing his depositions hearing have found there is sufficient evidence to put Weatherston on trial.
Weatherston has been remanded in custody to reappear in the Dunedin High Court on July 3.
One of the JPs thanked family, friends and supporters for their understanding and patience, and counsel for their professional handling of the hearing.
