Havelock North baritone Phillip Rhodes won the 2007 Lexus Song Quest in the Auckland Town Hall last night ahead of Wade Kernot (Auckland) and Emma Fraser (Dunedin).
In a tightly fought contest in front of judge Elizabeth Connell, Rhodes, 28, triumphed with performances of Finzi's Come Away Death in the lieder and art song section, and Leoncavallo's Si Puo? Signore, Signori (I Pagliacci) and Verdi's Credo (Otello) in the orchestral section.
