A Hamilton man charged with assaulting his father who later died has appeared in court.
The 29-year-old was supported by family and friends as he appeared in the Hamilton District Court yesterday on charges of assaulting his father, assaulting his mother and intentionally damaging the electronics and "dwelling house interior" of their home on Saturday.
The mechanic was granted bail to his home and will reappear in the Hamilton District Court on November 15.
The bail will mean he will be able attend his father's funeral.
The charges relate to an alleged "family harm", or domestic, incident at the man's parents house.
