The inscription on this sliver tray tells us that it was given to Alma and Doug by the staff of the Dominion Road Methodist Sunday School on November 1st, 1939.
Perhaps you know who Alma and Doug were and what they were celebrating?
Did they both work at the Sunday School? Had they just announced their engagement and were planning their life together? Was Doug about to head off to war and they wanted to make a lifetime commitment before he left?
Or perhaps they were celebrating their 25th silver wedding anniversary? They may have had sons already fighting on the other side of the world, or about to depart. Despite the celebration and generous gift, their minds may have been preoccupied with worry and fear about the future.
