Three soldiers have been injured during an army training exercise near Waiouru Camp yesterday.
An army spokeswoman said the ammunition-related incident happened at 5pm in the Argo Valley, 15km from the camp.
Two soldiers were flown to Palmerston North Hospital. One is in a serious condition and the other stable.
A third soldier was transported to the hospital last night via ambulance and has been discharged this morning.
Major Denise Mackay said: "The soldiers had completed a live firing exercise and were taking part in refurbishing the position and the stores and equipment used. It appears that an explosion occurred during this activity."
