The body of a New Zealand soldier who died in Afghanistan this week will arrive home today.
The family of Corporal Douglas Hughes have requested that his body's arrival at the Whenuapai base be a private affair.
Colleagues at Bagram Air Base farewelled his body in Afghanistan and he travelled back to New Zealand by the Royal Australian Airforce and Royal New Zealand Air Force C-130 Hercules.
Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General Rhys Jones confirmed an investigation is underway. Hughes' death was non-combat related.
Funeral details are yet to be confirmed.
