A Linton soldier has admitted indecently assaulting another soldier and making an intimate visual recording of his private parts.
The 19-year-old South Island defendant's lawyer said in Palmerston North District Court yesterday the incident was a "practical joke gone wrong".
The Manawatu Standard said the offence, understood to
have involved a photo being taken of the victim's genitals, also involved a second soldier who faced identical charges.
The intimate visual recording charge carries a maximum penalty of three years in jail.
Defence lawyer Jacinda Younger said the offence, committed in the Linton military barracks in February, was "particularly unique " one.
The recording offence was established by a change to the Crimes Act two years ago, in response to advances in technology.
Both men have interim name suppression, with the man who appeared yesterday due to be sentenced on October 23.
