Researchers at UC Berkeley have been studying leaping lizards. More specifically: their tails. Lizards have a clever way of counter-balancing their jumps with their tails to prevent themselves from landing badly. The researchers want to apply this to search-and-rescue robots, such as "Tailbot" that may need to manoeuvre in difficult terrain.
