Giants pitcher Ritchie Clarke said his team had only themselves to blame for their 4-2 loss to Poneke-Kilbirnie in their opening Inter City series top six playoff match at Fraser Park on Saturday.
"It was a game we should have won, simple as that," Clarke said.
"We didn't capitalise on a couple of prime scoring chances with the bat and we also made a few basic errors in the field, we should have done better."
On the batting front, Giants left two runners on base in their first innings and then in the second innings they had loaded bases but still couldn't get anyone over home plate.
And they also had the mortification of conceding two runs to Poneke-Kilburnie in their first turn at bat through lapses in their fielding performance.
"They [P-K] are a very good side and you have to be right on your game to beat them," Clarke said.
A highlight for Giants was the home run hit by Justin Karaitiana.
