A new poll shows interest in soccer soaring, with more New Zealanders interested in the All Whites' performance at the World Cup than the All Blacks' in their upcoming tests.
The UMR Research poll shows 36 per cent of people are more interested in the All Whites at the World Cup than the All Blacks in the Ireland/Wales tests, while just 15 per cent are more interested in the All Blacks.
Forty per cent say they are equally interested in both, while 9 per cent aren't interested in either.
While more New Zealanders are interested in rugby than are interested in soccer generally (62 oer cent interested in rugby, 53 per cent interested in soccer), many people who are not generally interested in soccer are interested in the All Whites at the World Cup.
When asked who they thought would win the World Cup, however, just 3 per cent picked New Zealand. Brazil (29 per cent), Germany (18 per cent) and Argentina (12 per cent) are seen as the favourites to take home the trophy.
The results are based upon an online survey of a representative sample of 1,112 New Zealanders.
The survey was in the field from June 16 to 22, with 85 per cent of the surveys completed between the All Whites' draws with Slovakia (June 15) and Italy (June 21).
The margin of error is 2.94 per cent. The survey was paid for by UMR Research, and was not commissioned by any other third party.
