A pupil at Wakatipu High School suffered a fractured skull when a soccer goal tipped and fell on him.
The boy was taken to Lakes District Hospital by ambulance then to Invercargill after the accident during a break at 2.15pm on Friday.
Wakatipu High School principal Steve Hall said the boy had been released and was recovering at home.
He was expected back at school next week, Mr Hall said.
Yesterday, Mr Hall said the soccer goal had been "completely secured" against a solid object and the school was investigating the incident.
