The New Zealand Transport Agency is advising people driving on SH73 from Arthurs Pass to Otira to fix chains to their tyres as snow showers persist in alpine areas this morning.
Chains also must be carried by drivers on Milford Rd and Crown Range. SH73 and Milford Rd are also closed to towing vehicles.
MetService is forecasting continued snow showers for Arthurs Pass, with another 3-5cm falling from 8am to 11am today, with lesser amounts down to about 500m.
A few snow showers are still possible about Milford Rd today, with 1cm or 2cm accumulating on the road this afternoon, and another 1 to 2cm possible on the road near the tunnel this evening.
Snow showers are expected to continue to affect Lewis Pass this morning, with another 2 to 4cm may accumulate on higher parts of the road between 8am and 11am, with lesser amounts down to about 600 metres.
Snow showers for Lindis Pass and Porters Pass have cleared.
