MetService forecaster Tom Adams said the fine weather across most of New Zealand would last a couple more days before an approaching front made landfall.
This latest wintry blast would bring heavy rain to western regions in both islands, strong winds to central New Zealand and snow to the southernmost regions tomorrow and Thursday.
"It's bringing a decent chunk of rain with it but what is quite exciting in this case is that it's coming far further south so there's reasonable chance of snow for the South Island."
Auckland is in for a sunny day today with a high of 15C. Wellington has similar conditions but northerly winds get stronger tonight.
