KEY POINTS:
Snow has been forecast for parts of the country today.
The MetService has warned the Lindis Pass and Porters Pass will get a light snow covering this morning, but it should clear by this afternoon.
The Desert Road was expected to be hit with sleet near its summit today, which could turn to snow by tonight.
Meanwhile, a landslide blocked the Napier-Taupo Road this morning.
Sergeant Bruce Dean, from the Napier police traffic unit, said the slip happened just before 10am was on the Taupo side of the road in the Waipunga District.
It was probably a result of the heavy rain in the area.
Police and Transit vehicles were still on their way to the site, but Mr Dean said it would probably take a long time to clear away.
"Not helpful right before Christmas for travellers," he said.
The slip was in the same place as a previous one that hit about two months ago, Mr Dean said.
And on April 21 a slip came down nearly killing two people.
