Snow finally arrives at Mt Ruapehu

Snow has finally hit Mt Ruapehu and the timing could not have been better.

Mardi Gras was held over the weekend in Ohakune and despite a lack of snowing running up to the event the weather gods came to the party for the winter celebrations.

Mt Ruapehu Marketing Manager Mike Smith says they could not have asked for better conditions over the weekend.

He says snow came in on Friday night, it then cleared up yesterday for the festival and it has been snowing again since the early hours of this morning.

Mike Smith says they are working towards getting Turoa open in the next couple of days.
