KEY POINTS:
A freight plane with smoke coming out of the cockpit landed safely in Christchurch early today.
Emergency services at Christchurch Airport were put on full alert just before 4am but a fire service spokesman said the Convair aircraft landed safely and there was no major damage.
"No one was injured as far as I know," he said.
