Smoke alarms saved four people from their "smoke logged" Christchurch home early this morning.
Fire services were called to the scene of a fire in Pateke Place, Bromley, in Christchurch, about 4.15am today, fire southern communications shift manager Rewai Grace said.
He said fire fighters arrived to a "smoke logged house".
Mr Grace said the smoke came from a pot on the kitchen stove, and working smoke alarms had alerted the family to the smoke, before a fire had the chance to spread.
Four people were transported to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, Mr Grace said.
