Small town bad luck and protecting an inebriated cousin conspired to land a Greytown man in court for driving while disqualified.
Whare Wilson, beneficiary, pleaded guilty to disqualified driving when he appeared in Masterton District Court on Monday, having been caught on West Street, Greytown on March 21.
Representing Wilson, solicitor Jock Blathwayt told the court Wilson had been home with his children when a cousin and his children arrived to visit.
The cousin had a few drinks and when Wilson realised he was out of bread and milk he made the decision to drive the short distance to the grocery to get them.
"The local policeman saw and recognised the cousin's car and stopped it because he wanted to talk to the cousin, so there was an element of small town bad luck here," Mr Blathwayt said.
