Two minor earthquakes hit central parts of both main islands today.
In North Canterbury, a 3.7 magnitude, light intensity, 40km deep quake was centred 40km east of Amberley, according to GeoNet.
The quake happened at about 3.03am.
In the central North Island, a much shallower, 3.5 magnitude, 16km deep quake
was centred 20km northwest of Taihape at about 6.40am.
