A magnitude 4.5 earthquake has struck 25 kilometres north of Te Kaha in the Bay of Plenty.
The quake was 40km deep and happened shortly after 8am today, according to preliminary information from GeoNet.
Its intensity was described as moderate.
More than 20 people had filed reports with the service.
