Small plane crashes in Hawke's Bay

A small plane has crashed near Waipukurau in southern Hawke's Bay.

Emergency services were called at 2.25pm to the crash, a St John central communications spokeswoman said.

She was unable to give the location of the crash, other than to say it was "out in the country" and not at Waipukurau airport.

Police central communications Inspector Ken Climo said the Fire Service and ambulance personnel had responded to the callout.

He understood one person in the plane was "okay".

It was not known if others were also in the plane.
