KEY POINTS:
The opening of the Parnell Baths next month is uncertain after urgent remedial work started on a slip near the swimming complex this week.
Contractors have been scaling the side of the cliff to clear loose debris and vegetation to stabilise the slip area and prevent further erosion.
The public has been banned from parts of the baths since August after a slip from the cliff behind the complex left cracks at the top of the cliff.
The Auckland City Council ordered "urgent" work start on the slip after the recent wet weather.
It is expected to take until October 26, when the council will have the results of an investigation into the general stability of the area by engineering firm Tonkin & Taylor.
In a memo to the Hobson Community Board, transport infrastructure delivery general manager Tim Lott said the aim was to open the baths early next month. "If unforeseen circumstances arise, the opening of the baths may have to be delayed."
To ensure public safety, the council has closed the last section of Judges Bay Rd leading to the baths' carpark and the walkway to Pt Resolution.
