Ramblers
There was something new for the Ruamahanga Ramblers when they held a cross-country event at John Sage's Carter's Line dairy farm on Saturday.
Twice each lap competitors had to run, or walk, through the stock underpass, making it the first time the Ramblers have had a tunnel as part of their course.
Some of the athletes wore running shoes with spikes and that made sense, as those without them sometimes struggled to keep their feet, with at least one taking a tumble because of the slippery surface.
Joshua Vermuelen, who has been making steady improvement in recent weeks, maintained his good form by taking third on handicap after a hard-fought sprint finish with Paul Furkert.
