KEY POINTS:
A slip has closed State Highway Six in the lower Buller Gorge between Inangahua Junction and Westport.
Inspector Doug Parker said the road was likely to be closed for a "considerable length of time".
He said access was open through the Coast Rd, via Greymouth.
