A slip has closed State Highway 1 south of Kaikoura, as the effects of November's magnitude 7.8 earthquake continues.
The inland route, via Waiau, is unaffected and remains open.
Kaikoura was cut off for several weeks after the November 14 quake, which walloped central New Zealand and triggered a series of huge slips on SH1 between Picton and Christchurch.
SH1 south of Kaikoura reopened to daytime traffic last month, but closed yesterday after a slip.
According to the New Zealand Transport Agency website, the road is closed between Hundalee and Kaikoura.
