Slip blocks SH6 near Greymouth

A slip has blocked State Highway 6 north of Greymouth.

Constable Franco Horridge of Greymouth police said the road was blocked at Cobden Bridge but vehicles could still reach Runanga and head further north by taking the long way via Stillwater.

Police were alerted after 10am and Mr Horridge said the road was likely to remain blocked for several hours.

A helicopter had been called to wash the slip away, but once it was cleared contractors would have to be convinced the area was stable before allowing traffic back through.
