The SkyPath walking and cycleway over the Auckland Harbour Bridge will be a huge tourist magnet, says Transport Minister Phil Twyford.
Speaking on Newstalk ZB while thousands of people were running over the bridge during this morning's Auckland Marathon, Twyford said the Government will fund the $30 million SkyPath project.
He said SkyPath would be a breakthrough cycling project and tourist magnet for Auckland.
The project will compliment work on illuminating the harbour bridge with thousands of LED lights.
Work has begun installing about 90,000 LED lights. The solar light show is due to be completed by the end of summer in a partnership between power company Vector and Auckland Council.
