Skydiving company involved in tragic accident back up and running

The Queenstown skydiving company involved a tragic accident is back up and running.

NZONE said it temporarily suspended operations, after two people on a tandem skydive plummeted into Lake Wakatipu.

American tourist Tyler Nii, 27, and his instructor plunged into the freezing waters of Lake Wakatipu four days ago.

The instructor was pulled from the water near Jack's Pt 20 minutes later, but Nii couldn't be found. He is presumed dead.

A spokesperson for NZONE said they made their first flight of the day around 8.30am this morning.

She said they had pre-bookings for skydives before the incident.

The spokesperson said they've advised the Civil Aviation Authority, which she said is comfortable with their decision.

NZONE would not confirm if any changes have been made to its operation.

The Police National Dive Squad are due to arrive today.

Tyler's mother Nancy Nii told the Herald the family "are still in shock" over the accident.

The family had wanted to come to New Zealand as soon as they heard about the tragedy, but authorities advised them not to, Nancy Nii said.

They desperately want to bring their son and brother home.

"We are hoping to go to the lake and praying that we will be able to bring Tyler back home with us, so we can start our healing process. We have no idea what to do other than that.

"It has been so tough for us to be so far away and feeling so helpless."
