A skydiver was flown to Christchurch Hospital with a shattered pelvis and leg after a tandem skydive went wrong at the alpine resort of Methven yesterday.
The skydivers were only 10m from the ground and preparing to land when the cords of their chute became tangled, Garden City Helicopter's manager Simon Duncan said.
The instructor escaped injury, but the customer was injured.
St John's Ambulance said they had been called to Sky Diving NZ's Pudding Hill centre at 11.25am. They called in the helicopter to transfer a person with moderate injuries to Christchurch Hospital.
The accident happened at Sky Diving NZ's parachute centre near Methven.
Staff who eyewitnessed the incident said they had been instructed not to talk to media but referred the Herald on Sunday to a company spokeswoman in Christchurch. Kirsty, who would not reveal her last name, confirmed an incident had happened but would not give details.
