KEY POINTS:
An Auckland man has been caught putting his phone up a woman's skirt to take photos, police say.
Michael Albert Schimanski has been charged with making an intimate visual recording of another person, a relatively new charge under the Crimes Act, and has made his first appearance in the Auckland District Court.
The 27-year-old is alleged to have taken photos with his mobile phone looking up a woman's dress two weeks ago, said police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty. In a text message, Schimanski said he wished to make no comment as the matter was before the courts. He also objected to the Herald on Sunday leaving a letter under the door of his inner-city apartment.
"In the future can you please not put things under my door and use the mail box like everyone else dose [sic]. cheers."
Schimanski has pleaded not guilty and will appear in court next month.
The Herald on Sunday reported last year that Wayne Golding-Clarke was convicted of committing an indecent act when he used his mobile phone to photograph up the skirt of a Hamilton shopper.
The Morrinsville man said he was not ashamed of his actions.
"I'm not a pervert. I like legs - just like anyone does. Come on, all guys would be perverts, we live in a perverted world."
Christopher Douglas Kurth was also convicted in 2005 of offensive behaviour after he was caught taking pictures of a woman with his cellphone through a hole in the wall of a Hamilton toilet.
