Phil Keinzley will be back in the coaching role when Wairarapa United plays Wainuiomata in a Chatham Cup elimination football match at Prouse Park, Wainuiomata tomorrow.
Keinzley returned from an overseas holiday this week to find Wairarapa United setting the pace alongside Miramar Rangers in the central league series despite their upset 4-2 loss to middle-of-the-table Tawa last weekend .
That makes for a very different scenario from last year when Wairarapa United started slowly and came with a late rush to end up third and, understandably, Keinzley is keen to see them use tomorrow's match against lower-graded opposition to prove the Tawa loss was nothing more than a "brief hiccup".
Especially with them meeting Miramar Rangers in a central league fixture at Masterton's park oval the following Sunday.
"We want a good win, anything less won't be acceptable,"Keinzley said of the clash with a Wainuiomata team which beat a severely depleted United in a pre-season encounter.
Keinzley sees Wainuiomata taking an "everything to gain nothing to lose" approach and wants his side to play a structured brand of football so that their greater skill levels emerge.
"We have to be patient and look to open them up through good, sensible play," he said.
Keinzley said Wairarapa United were taking their Chatham Cup campaign seriously with the players determined to advance. "The league and the Cup double would be nice, wouldn't it?"
