Two people, one believed to be a child, were seriously injured when a 4WD skidded off State Highway 5 near Napier last night after heavy rain, hit a tree, and landed on top of another vehicle from an earlier accident.
The two were treated at the scene by fire-rescue personnel and paramedics before being flown to Hawkes Bay Regional Hospital by the Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter.
Their conditions were not known late last night.
