KEY POINTS:
Timaru police have charged six young men with the murder of a 26-year-old man who was bashed in a street robbery in the city last Saturday night.
Wayne Kerry Bray died in Timaru Hospital late on Wednesday night from injuries he received in the vicious attack.
The father of three suffered serious head injuries and had been in a drug-induced coma since being admitted to hospital.
Detective Sergeant Marion Neill, of Timaru CIB, said today the six charged with Mr Bray's murder were aged between 17 and 19.
They were to appear in Timaru District Court this afternoon.
A post-mortem on Mr Bray's body was done in Christchurch yesterday.
Ms Neill told NZPA a 17-year-old who had been remanded in custody charged with assaulting Mr Bray before a more serious group assault on Saturday night would now face a murder charge with five co-accused.
The homicide investigation team of 15, including some CIB staff from Christchurch, had interviewed a large number of people, several of whom were at a party in Bouverie St near where Mr Bray was assaulted.
