Six people have been taken to hospital after a three-car crash in the Waikato.
Police said it appeared that a vehicle crossed the centre line at Horotiu and collided with on-coming traffic about 11am.
A Waikato Hospital spokeswoman said four of the injured were travelling together and were thought to be Japanese students in their early twenties.
Two women in the group were in a serious condition, while the two men were described as stable.
The 74-year-old driver of another car was in a stable condition and his wife, 72, was still be assessed. The couple were from Otorohanga, the hospital spokeswoman said.
The southbound lane of State Highway One was blocked and diversions put in place from Park Road to Horotiu Road.
