Police have arrested six teenagers after a man was viciously attacked in Palmerston North early on Sunday morning.
The 24-year-old local man was left unconscious with serious injuries after being beaten and robbed in Ferguson St around 1am.
A police spokesman said a scene examination suggested it had been a "vicious and sustained" assault.
All those arrested have been jointly charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Two of the teens, a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old, will appear in Palmerston North Youth Court today.
Four others, aged 14 to 16, will be dealt with through the Youth Aid system, police said.
No one else was being sought in connection with the attack.
