The Atkinson sisters from Wairarapa starred at the Tennis Central regional junior tennis tournament at the Masterton Tennis Centre last weekend.
Sade Atkinson justified her top seeding by winning the girls' 14yrs singles, while her youngster sister Georgia was runner-up in the girls' 12yrs event.
Their performances have made them strong contenders for places in the Tennis Central age-group sides to play against Northland and Waikato in the Spring Tri Series tournament in October.
Two other Wairarapa players, Johnty Tatham and Guy Lewis, contested the boys' 14yrs singles. While they didn't make it through to the top-eight, they gave a solid account of themselves.
The main talking point of the Masterton tournament, which saw 185 matches played over the two days, was the girls' 16yrs singles final. In it, national representative, 13-year-old Paige Hourigan, beat Bridgette Liddell, 14, in the super tiebreak by two points.
